For the fastener industry, the most noteworthy measurement of technical aptitude is the Certified Fastener Specialist (CFS) designation. With more than 1,600 alumni, the CFS advanced technical training program was developed in 1998 and is now attainable through Fastener Training Week, offered by the Fastener Training Institute (FTI) in partnership with the Industrial Fasteners Institute (IFI). August In-Person Fastener Training Week Hosted by the Mid-West Fastener Association The next opportunity for this accelerated training is August 16-20 in Elk Grove Village, Illinois, located 20 miles northwest of Chicago. Rather than seven separate one-day courses spread out over several months, Fastener Training Week offers five intensive days of education covering manufacturing processes, consensus standards and quality control, as well as plant tours. The week features a brand-new refreshed curriculum with even more learning labs and more hands-on interactive class exercises and quizzes to reinforce learning. Courses are taught by industry experts including Salim TECHNICAL ARTICLE Brahimi, Industrial Fasteners Institute; Laurence Claus, NNi Training and Consulting; and John Medcalf, Peak Innovations Engineering. Attendees are encouraged to have at least two years of experience in fastener sales, purchasing, manufacturing or quality assurance or have completed FTI’s Product Training Program. Fastener Training Week enrollment is open to fastener distributors, manufacturers, endusers and original equipment manufacturers. After completing this invaluable industry training in a small group environment and passing a final exam, attendees are eligible for the CFS designation. In-between he is coordinating import purchases or solving computer problems as he rolls his eyes and says, “did you restart?” He is the Swiss army knife of Solution. Dustin Windsor, Sourcing - 12 years - Dee, Big Brown, D-Wind is our quiet one who ACES special projects and packages where he can stay in the BACKCOURT only to come out when nature calls him out for a SPIKE. Keith McGuire, Quality - 10 years - Keith is Solution’s one and only ginger, but “red” isn’t limited to his hair… his face can be an angry shade of red as he tackles the departmental challenges – always patient yet still manages to remain positive. He might know our processes (and craft beverages) better than anyone. Tim Vath, Assistant General Manager/CPA - 10 years - Tim keeps Solution grounded. It always seems like the “quiet” sign is on his office door, so not sure if he’s deep in thought or practicing his golf swing. He’s our thinker/problem solver, has a big heart and a great listener and always finds a way to communicate with Team Solution.
